IRA / Retirement Account
Gifting out of your Individual Retirement Account (IRA) is a way you can help increase gospel access around the world through The Alliance. As an added benefit, if you are 70½ or older, you can make gifts directly from your IRA to The Alliance as a way to lower the income and taxes from your IRA withdrawals.
Benefits of an IRA charitable rollover
- Avoid taxes on transfers of up to $105,000 from your IRA to The Alliance.
- Make a gift that is not subject to the deduction limits on charitable gifts.
- Help increase gospel access around the world through The Alliance.
How do I get Started?
- Contact your IRA custodian to tell them you intend to make a "qualified charitable distribution." Many custodians will provide you with a form that they will ask you to use to complete your gift. If your custodian does not have a form and they ask for written instructions, please contact us. We can provide you with a sample letter that you can use.
- Complete your custodian form or letter and mail it back to your IRA custodian.
- Once your IRA custodians receives your instructions, your gift will be directly transferred to us.
- Please note that IRA charitable rollover gifts do not qualify for a charitable deduction.
- Please contact us if you wish for your gift to be used for a specific purpose.
Helpful Hints
- Start Early. It may take your IRA custodian a few weeks to process your gift. If you are thinking about making a gift at the end of the year, be sure to give your custodian enough time.
- Be Direct. In order to avoid taxes on distributions to charity, your custodian will need to transfer your gift to us directly.
- Don't Have an IRA? Rollover gifts can only be made from an IRA. If you don't have an IRA but you do have another retirement account, such as a 401(k) or 403(b), please contact us for ideas on what you can do to benefit from the IRA charitable rollover.
